Today I would like to express my interest in the Miniature Horse, a breed of horse that is very special and different. Most miniature horse aren’t taller than forty inches. If doesn’t have a distinct look, in fact, they come in all sizes, colors and possess the same attributes of any regular sized horse. It has the same intelligence, mobility and power of any other horse as well The miniature horse comes from a combination of many other breeds which aren’t well known. It was brought into the the U.S. at the turn of the 19th century. The miniature horse wasn’t discovered by the U.S. until after the 1950’s and at this time they were used in a work capacity, mostly in mines. This breed of horse was used in the mines because of their statue and ability to pull loads in confined spaces.
Many of the breeds were brought in from england because of their popularity, they were used for: research, used as trade and given a way for gifts. If fact, they became so popular, an organization was formed after them. Until this day the organization continues to set the standard for what horses or miniature’s qualify as a true miniature. This organization has been in existence since after 1970. The organization is truly trying to preserve the heritage of the miniature blood line and in doing so, it’s popularity continues to grow, so does it’s value. The industry for these creature has expanded tremendously and has rewarded those who breed this particular horse.
Miniature horse has a few draw backs because of it size and make-up. It has a problem with the over consumption of food. They must be monitored, they can consume the normal amount of food like any regular sized horse, however, because of it’s build, this become a challenge for it’s digestive system. They are monitored regularly and given food in smaller quantities twice a day. Water must be present so that they can flush their system. There is much care that should be given to this particular breed of animal. Miniature horses should receive good air flow because of their size, it is essential to their health, so when they are settled into barns they must be positioned to look over the stall doors. Also, when they are young, there teeth must be check on a regular bases to ensure problems don’t occur later into adult life says my friend oscar. There are many factor that come into play when taking care of these animal, but the enjoyment and splendor of owning these creatures is well worth it.(return to home)
